Music Mart to be relaunched as 'Performing Musician' magazine from October 2007 issue.

Twelve months on from acquiring Music Mart magazine, SOS Publications Ltd (publishers of Sound On Sound) are to retitle it as 'Performing Musician' with a greater emphasis on gear tests and live performance techniques.

"We've been slowly evolving Music Mart over the last 12 months and the new title better reflects who we feel its customer really is," said Publisher Dave Lockwood, who is also to take the helm as Editor of the rebranded magazine. Paul White, Editor-In-Chief of sister title Sound On Sound will be the magazine's Technical Editor — both Dave and Paul are highly experienced gigging musicians.

"We greatly appreciate the excellent support Music Mart has received from the MI industry over the last year, and the feedback has all been very positive. Requests for more gear and technique articles have been a consistent element throughout that feedback, and we now have a very clear understanding of the direction in which we should further develop the magazine."

The relaunched publication's full title, Performing Musician & Live Sound World, reflects the fact that PA products and techniques will remain a core component of the overall mix. "We are fortunate in having highly skilled, experienced authors who are able to properly test PA systems in real-world situations. Everyone knows what a powerful marketing tool a review in a credible, respected magazine can be, so we intend to give Performing Musician's reviews a similar calibre and depth to those in Sound On Sound. The live performance sector as a whole, encompassing instruments, backline amplification, PA and lighting, hasn't been properly served with a focussed newstrade publication since the era of vertical titling began in the mid-80s. We are very much looking forward to giving this sector the magazine we feel it deserves."

Issue 1 of Performing Musician goes on sale on Friday 28th September 2007.
