Suhr Riot and a Tube screamer after it for a solo boost (with distortion on 0 and gain on
10).
This works well on my clean Peavey Classic 30. Wouldn't mind a nicer amp
though but it's still great.

Haven't used one for some time but it was an Ibanez Tube Screamer. Borrowed it off a
friend of a friend for about two years before the cad hunted me down and asked for it
back.
The audacity!

Tube Screamer again. Although my 80s pedal has an iffy switch which seems to defy repair
making it a bit of a gamble in a gig. So my Boss OD2 goes on tour.

You've just
reminded me:
Strat into Boss stereo chorus - one side out into a Peavey Classic
with channel switching for clean/dirty sounds, other side into the Tube Screamer into a
Roland JC120.
Fantastic range of tones and BIIIGGG sound with the Peavey on
'nasssty' and the JC on clean with the built in chorus.
I'd totally forgotten
about that. Still got the JC, Peavey went to amp heaven.

+1 to all of these.
Exactly my tastes.
I would add the Harmonic Percolator clone that Fredric
effects here in London produce. It is a clone of the Interfax Harmonic Percolator
from the 70's. Very different sound, but great.
My go to pedal for Muff sounds
is the Blackout Effectors Musket. Nails Muff tones and gives lots of tweaking
options.

Strangely, one of my ‘favs’ ever is the Boss's 'MT-2 Metal Zone’… You can do
lots of different distortions, overdrives and fuzzes with it,plus, you can have a great
sound at a very low level…If I could,I probably would make one of the ‘boutique revamp
modification’ for this great reliable pedal…That’s all I need (+ Boss 'CH-1 Super
Chorus’ and a volume pedal)…I should point that all my guitar gear is full of valves
and i don’t use amp’s distortion,only clean sound. Cheers!

For me it's the Marshall Guv'nor - the original sloping black one.
On my board
I have two, one for overdrive and the other that I use for boost. The three band EQ is
very useful and musical.

I should also add that I am becoming rather partial (shock horror) to the Joyo Ultimate
Drive!! I also have a deepset fondness for the Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive and Boss Bd-2
Blues Driver. I will also add that I had a few more expensive pedals, such as the OCD,
which all found their way to the readers ad section.

Yes it really is an extremely versatile pedal with a clean channel, an overdrive channel
and a boost (tone stack over-ride) feature too... Very very nice...

I'm not much into really big, saturated overdriven sounds myself, so for me I'm sold on my
Lazy J Cruiser. Rich tones that can be subtly applied. Or not! Plus I've got my compressor
before it in the chain. Judicious use of the both of them in tandem can be a gorgeous
combination.

I'm addicted to building clone pedals..... With this in mind, current favourite
overdriven are home brew versions of the Analogman King of Tone and the Catalinbread Dirty
Little Secret. The former is 'two pedals in one' and you can set each side up as a boost,
an overdrive or a distortion. For my taste, one side as clean boost and one side as
overdrive is more than enough. Especially ŵhen you turn them both on together Having said that, I'll soon be building a Klon clone, a Hermida Zen Drive and an OCD.
Building an OCD seems a little silly as the Joyo Ultimate Drive is actually a clone of the
OCD if I understand correctly so it's for the love of it here and for the ease of modding
it for a wider pot useable range (apparently the OCD and Joyo clones are great but pants
after 9 o'clock so it seems common to swap the pot )

I love the sound of a valve amp - I've never yet found a distortion pedal that equals my
gain channels without costing more than the amp. And I've never had a customer come to the
studio who disagreed (once they'd tried real amps instead). My favourite gear is: any
guitar plugged straight into the amp. My second favourite gear is: any guitar plugged into
a wah-wah and into the amp. Is it just me? btw its not that I have
esoteric amps and cabinets - just a Laney Lionheart, and a Peavey Duel Two Twelve (that
one's a beast). Oh, and I have a Bognor Alchemist on the way. Now if I could
just manage to win an eBay auction on a Fender Deville 4 x 10 I'd have the clean channel
sorted as well.

I like the EMMA RF2 truly amazing. The VHT V Drive, Wampler Euphoria/Ecstacy, Wampler
Triple Wreck, Xotic FX BB preamp. There are loads of great overdrive/distortion pedals out
there. The Blackstar HT-Dual is great as is the Hardwire SC-2 and CM-2. The Suhr Riot has
already been mentioned but, well, it's awesome! I like the demos of the Catalinabread RAH.
The Tech 21 Leeds character pedal is useful too. Someone brought up the original Marshall
Gov'ner pedal - I sure miss mine.

I totally agree. I haven't tried valve distortion pedals though i.e Black star.
But I always think my amp overdrive (tube amp) sounds better than pedals. I just don't
have an amazing amp at the minute with a footswitch or an effects loop so I use a
distortion pedal live.

Pretty much
agree with you but some amps need some help in the form of a booster/overdrive pedal.

My two favourites have to be the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic and the Blackstar
HT-Dual. Both sound great into the Albion TCT-50 combo that has now become my amp of
choice.

This one : I bought my first DST-3 in the late 80s I love it !! It doesn't play nicely with a fully cranked valve amp, but IMHO
gives a great sound with a tranny amp or a clean valve.

I
have the rackmount version. Together with the 20/20 power amp, it's a pretty devastating
bit of kit!
Generally, I prefer the sound of a cranked tube amp to a pedal. I
got to borrow a vintage Marshall with powersoak for the DJ's first album from the factory
and offered Mr Marshall Jr an obscene amount of money to have it away, but he wouldn't
sell it to me However, I don't think I'd ever part with my original 80s Tube Screamer
