silent guitar leads

Does anybody use those silent guitar leads, the ones that allegedly mute as soon as they are pulled out.

Reason i ask is that i do several open mic nights a month and am fed up with people finishing their sets and instantly ripping the guitar leads out of their acoustics before i can switch them off. I know i have really good limiters on my active cabs but thats not the point.

Yes, the silent lea work, but you might have trouble hanging on to them.

How long does it take to pull down the back line group fader?

Some of them work well, sometimes, in my experience.

You would think that a performer who can remember the score and words to hundreds of song could also remember to get the "all clear" nod before removing the plug

So far i've not lost a single lead so thats a bonus. I could always secure them to my DI boxes anyway.
I just cant hit the mute button fast enough on occasions (need to isolate monitors too) Last night somebody was merrily playing away, finished a song and instantly grabbed the lead. I didn't even know she had finished her set. Its like a game of quick draw.

Will pick a couple up to try, any manufactures you recommend?

Education - not a word i associate with guitarists

I have one, uses Klotz cable. Bit of a funny story.....
About 2yrs ago I picked up what I thought was a cheap "Neutrik" guitar cable from Maplin's bargain bin. When I got it home I found that 1) it was a speaker cable and 2)it was clearly not a genuine Neutrik product.
I therefore contacted Neutrik who were very pleased that I had and sent me a 5mtr complimentory silent plug lead! Maplin apologized and offered a refund but in truth as speaker cable the "copy" was fine and I had a good result anyway!

The silent plugs use a reed switch AFAIK and are guaranteed 10,000 insertions?

Haha, yes at open mic nights some people plug out before the last chord has died away. I think they are just very fearful and not used to performing in public.
