"select" spruce top = laminate!!!

I was perusing some guitars that I thought had solid spruce tops the other day then I checked out discussions about them and discovered that 'select' for some manufacturers means laminate! Well well how the language gets twisted by marketing! I think it's really out of order

i was looking on the net, so i wouldn't know. If they want to say " this top is laminate but it sounds great" that's fine by me. I wouldn't call an acoustic guitar electric no matter how great it sounds, same for laminate tops. If they are laminate why not say ? "select spruce" implies a whole lot more and if their laminate is so great why not call it by it's name?

+1 for that!! Some of the top of the range Yamaha LJ's are laminate topped and they sound superb!
