Daisy Chains, Isolated Power Supplies and Pedal Fussiness
      #989001 - 22/05/12 06:02 PM
I have a bunch of Boss pedals that I wish to mount to a pedalboard. Re: a power supply, the easy option is buy a good quality 2000mA 9Volt regulated supply and daisy-chain the power to all the pedals...

However, which of these pedals are likely to be more 'fussy' about their power, and perform better with an isolated power supply?

- Overdrive
- Compressor
- Noise Gate
- Chorus
- Reverb
- Delay

Expert opinions most appreciated.

I'm no expert but I got the 1Spot and it cleaned up the output of the few Boss pedals I have. It even powers my Clavinet and very old BF1. It revived my half rack Boss RPS10 as well, which had become unusable due to the noisy Boss PSU.

Depends entirely on how well made they are, really. "Which is less likely to break down, a saloon car or a hatchback?"

I does depend on the specific pedal, but I would say a good guide is that pedals like Reverb and Delay tend to be a bit more power hungry given that they are more complex circuits (a bit of a generalisation) although digital pedals will require more juice.

If it was me and I was limited to 3 outputs I would power the delay and reverb seperately and then daisy chain the rest. If I had four I'd probably do the noise gate next

Not sure if that helps!

Thanks

Neil

I've got the Visual Sound 1-Spot and I'm running 7 pedals off it with a mind to add a couple more. Really excellent value for money
