I'm a Lowden owner myself - Avalon took George Lowden's
no-expense-spared designs and pruned them for a more affordable instrument. IMO they
weren't quite as good as a Lowden, but then they were half the price, and they still do
have that sweetness to them which makes Lowdens the best fingerstyle steel-string around
(IMO again). I haven't kept track of Avalon since I got my Lowden back in 2002 though,
and checking the web, it looks like they've wavered a bit on their business plan over the
years.
