Wento on Thomann today and saw that they are now selling the M-Audio Venom for £152! http://www.thomann.de/gb/news_msg_m_audio_venom_synthesizer_zum_plug_in_pr
eis.html?sid=4f7b8a0ad6b2603e80a1525ca1d2d592 Can't believe that a VA with
audio interface can be priced so low (I know that AVID have sold that part of their
business and I take it that it has been discontiued) esp. that it was over £500 rrp. I was wondering has anyone used it and is it any good? Might consider buying
it on a whim for that price.

When it was launched, the Avid guys took me (and Zukan) through a demo to show us how
'different' a synth it was. My conclusion was the 'different' was a relative term of
comparison and it was being compared to everything else that sounded decent.
Quite a harsh sound iirc. Wasn't impressed. Also looked and felt cheaply built.
Personally, I'd avoid.

I had a noodle around on one at a trade show ages go... It's alright, if not overwhelming.
The fact that you need a computer to do any serious editing is a bit of a turn-off though.
For studio-only use you might as well just get a decent controller and do the soft-synth
thing.
Saying that, if you wanted a synth to play live and didn't mind doing
most of your patch setting-up from a computer, it'd work very well, especially if you're
not keen on the idea of taking a laptop on stage.
Cheers!

I'd say this is a pretty solid synth. I like the Access Virus B a lot more, but this
has a lot of cool features and you can definitely twist some knobs and make things even
better. Messed with one at a Guitar Center for an hour lol
