Dual Voice Coil but with different sizes?
      #987965 - 17/05/12 10:43 AM
Hi, I just put my eyes on an array system. As for the specifications, within each enclosure, the LF driver has 2 x 12" (300mm)/3" (75mm) voice coil, and MF driver has 2 x 6.5" (165mm)/2" (50mm) coil.

I'm confused. Is that dual voice coil? Why with different sizes?

Can anyone explain the behind-scene theory? Since the official site does not provide revelant information.

Thanks in advance. And FYI, the brand is Mar**n. The array is MLA system.

The larger number (the 12" or 6.5") is the overall diameter of the driver while the smaller number (the 3" or 2") is the diameter of the coil itself.

James.

When a speaker is listed as being 'Dual Voice coil', that means that the single speaker has 2 individual points to connect to an amplifier, or crossover.

This is useful on higher powered speakers, such as subwoofers, where you may want to connect 2 X 1000watt amplifiers onto a single speaker.

The signal for both voice coils should be identical.
