about 6 months back, I purchased a Peavey XR8600 powered mixer and (2) Peavey PV115
speakers to use strictly for vocals at my band's practices. This setup has worked great up
until recently.
For the past few weeks, I turn on the mixer, adjust the
volume, we start practicing, everything works great. At about 15 minutes into our
practice, the PA goes completely silent. It remains powered on, and registering when we
sing into the mic, but absolutely no audio. We've checked cable connections, settings,
buttons, etc. Nothing has changed, the audio just drops. The only solution has been to
turn it off for about 30 minutes, and then turn it back on, and it will proceed to do the
same thing, work for 15 minutes, audio drops out.
It appears to be some sort of
overheating issue... The PA is warm when the audio drops out, but not what I would think
would be abnormally hot... If it is overheating, why? am I doing something wrong? We use
no built-in effects, the volume is usually placed at about 1/3-1/2 up on both the channel
and master knobs. We never have it loud enough to feedback. Could this be a simple
malfunction/do I need to look into purchasing a new amp?
thanks in advance for
your help.
