Sound Systems in Cinema..?

I've just been to see 'Prometheus' in my local cinema (Vue in Hamilton, Scotland) and the sound was absolutely awesome. Anyone have any idea what the sound system might've been..? Can't find much on the net about it.

Normally 5.1 surround sound is used in cinemas, Dolby have released 'Brave' in Dolby Atmos which looks to be a cracker of a sound system!

Prometheus was mixed in 7.1 - as are a lot of the big budget releases are. Whether or not that particular theatre presented it in 7.1 or 5.1 is a different matter. Also, if you're asking what specific speaker/amp system was used, then that's anyone's guess! But the JBL Cinema systems are a good place to start if you want to know a bit more about cinema specific sound systems.

As for Brave, yes first film to be done in Dolby Atmos (64.2!!), but the 14 theatres equiped with it to show Brave are all in North America. So not sure that's a format that's mainstream just yet!

Martin Audio did Hull's Vue cinema installation, but they may have done others as the press release indicates:
