basic PA question - active subs
      #785027 - 05/11/09 05:19 PM

Hi,

Will be staging a concert in the not too distant future which we are having to hire a small PA for (2 subs and 2 tops).

my questions are:

1. does anyone know of a decent PA hire company in the nottingham area? I have tried pandahire but I was hoping to find something under £200! we only need to hire the speakers - 2 subs and 2 tops.

2. I have seen advertised a package which consists of a set of DB technologies active forty subs and tops - is this range recommended? also, as the subs are active, how would I go about connecting these speakers to the output of the desk? (mackie onyx 1640) Never having set up subs before I would appreciate some advice!!

Thanks,

Henry

Not used those DBs, but generally with an active subs+tops setup all you do is connect the main outputs of your desk to the subs, and there'll be a crossover output from the subs to the tops which does all the work for you. Simples

Not quite Nottingham, but, Robanna's in Brum do active Mackie at £100 per 1000w (which will be enough for what you want to do). The £100 saving will give you enough petrol money to drive them to-and-fro, and being totally active it's just a case of sending the main out's to the speakers.

Try Cnics Audio - should easily do less than £200.

thanks for all the replies. I had a brainwave and contacted my old school who have agreed to lend me their system free of charge! which means more money for children in need

cheers

Henry

just thought I would let you know that the gig was a huge success - managed to raise around £600 for children in need! even managed to get hold of 'the' BBC east midlands pudsey suit for the evening...

cheers

Henry
