Edirol FA-101 cutting out
      #954937 - 23/11/11 10:52 AM
Hi All,

My Edirol FA-101 has recently started cutting out after a variable about of time in use, e.g. either after a few seconds or a few minutes. I'm only using 2 inputs, numbers 1 and 2; playing backing music into 1 and my electric drums into 2. I thought that the drums may be coming in too hot, but I've made sure that the meter never reaches red... the problem keeps happening though! The input does register the sounds coming in but the outputs no longer provide the mix.

The software control is off and all settings are as normal for when I'd use it with no problems.

One thing is that I'm using it without the computer connected; I usually use the 4-pin firewire connector. Any chance that could affect it?

Thanks guys,
k1

ok, so the interface is about a year old, i'm running windows xp and using ableton suite 8. my computer is 2.0 GHz, dual core, 2 Gb RAM.

This problem of cutting out happens totally randomly - I will hear the unmounting sound that windows makes when you disconnect a USB cable, and my Fa-101 will cease to function; a few re-starts are needed before it'll work again. The same problem occurs when I connect it to a Mac, therefore I'm thinking it's faulty hardware or firmware. Anyone with any other suggestions?

Many thanks,
k1

well.... perhaps it's been dealt with - one of the FAQs on the edirol website for this product says not to start the computer with the FA-101 attached/powered on - rather it is better to turn on the computer, allow it to load up, switch on the edirol, wait a few seconds, then attach the firewire to the computer. apparently the interface is unstable if you start up with it connected.

seems to be working fine for me at the moment
