KORG SOUND on SOUND recording programed beat

Hello. I have a KORG SOUND on SOUND unlimited track recorder I got for my B-day. I'm having a heck of a time trying to record a programed beat. I switch the record to (ON), I change my tempo and beat to what I'm looking for. Then when I go to record JUST THAT BEAT...It reads (CANNOT)....Any help PLEASE.....Would be MUCH MUCH APPRCIATED..........
