This is a raid - mix advice needed please!!
      #994446 - 24/06/12 11:03 AM
Working on a new track, think its could be pretty cool once finished but cant help but think the mixing lets it down a bit (especially when compared to other peoples tracks i hear online).

Could anyone please spare a bit of advice/tips to get it on the right track?

Thanks

Everything is panned a little to the left for some reason, if this is deliberate - it doesn't work.

I can't help feeling it needs a lot more aggression - it sounds 'fluffy'.

I have some hearing loss in my right ear, so my mixing used to end up unbalanced - not sure if that's why someone found your mix heavy on one side - I couldn't comment.

Regarding the fluffy comment/aggression I tend to agree - it sounds like you are aiming for an industrial type sound, but it's all too clean - it needs noise/distortion IMHO

If its unbalanced then it could very well be down to hearing loss (i am a drummer) or it could be that the volume on each of my monitors/speakers are slightly off. It is my left ear that tends to play up so i may have automatically compensated for that without knowing. I'll have another look!

As far as gritting it up a bit more - I'm working on it

Thanks for the input!

Matt

At least to some extent you can calibrate for that! Using material you believe to be well mixed, adjust your balance to compensate for your hearing loss. You can do the same for eq. Obviously you want to do this in the final speaker signal chain and then leave it fixed. Of course, you could do this using tones too, but that gets tiring rapidly so starting with music is good.
