Resampling bounced audio after audio interface upgrade
      #995448 - 29/06/12 09:54 PM
Hello,

I have a quick question if someone wouldnt mind helping to answer please.

I have previously recorded audio, which was accomplished through average AD converters and now want to resample through better ones. Will this increase the fidelity or the audio file?

Thanks,
Rick

No. If the new interface is accurate, it will reproduce the original recording accurately, warts and all.

EW has hit the nail on the head. The sound quality is set by the first A-D conversion and nothing you can do (easily) will improve on that. At best passing through another converter won't make any audible changes, but it's more likely that further degradation will take place.

However, it is possible that that 'technical degradation' -- which might involve benign distortion products -- might be perceived as musically beneficial. In other words it might sound nicer, even if it measures worse.

Thank you everyone for the input and helping me to understand this. It sounds a lot like generation loss through each cycle.

I guess all I can do is move forward.

Take care!

Regards,
Rick
