Chart showing actual record sales?
      #987249 - 14/05/12 12:05 AM
Hi there,

Is there volume sales chart published publicly? i.e .what the actual volume of sales was for the week.
Failing that is there any way of estimating this figure?
(I know you can occasionally glimpse sales when an album goes silver/gold in it's first week of release and interpolate from that).

It changes all the time. Music week sometimes puts the numbers in.... but it does vary depending upon time of year.

that sort of data is compiled by OCC and normally not publicily available. Remember gold, silver 'awards' are awarded on numbers 'shipped' and can easily be manipulated

If its something specific you're interested in, I might be able to help.

I was interested for two reasons:

One, I was interested to see which genres of pop music were the most profitable( in terms of music sales).

Secondly I wanted to know how much a release might make from sales. (I assumed from an actual volume of sales, the gross could be worked out and perhaps from that a vague profit).
