My son is stressing about upgrading his beloved MBP 13 i5 with an SSD, I have said
probably get a Crucial 128, but is there one out there that is outstanding. any advice on
this and pointers to how to fit would be greatly appreciated.
A very merry
Christmas to all.....

I got a Crucial 128 for my Mac Pro and so far (after 6 months) no problems. I don't think
it is the best on the market, but it wasn't that expensive from Amazon and is faster than
a platter HD.

Crucial SSDs have very good reviews.
Here's a review of the SSD performance in
the Macbook Pro with Retina Display. The review states: Samsung's PM830 is
quite honestly the best behaved SSD controller I have used under OS X, it is no surprise
that Apple chose it.

I`ve been using a Crucial M4 for the last 6 months with no problems and am more than happy
to recommend it, massive performance increase over HD.

Both from reviews, and from personal experience I can vouch for the Samsung 830 series
(slightly cheaper now that a new 840 series has been released with great reviews also),
and the Crucial M4 series. If using the latter, take note of what firmware edition is used
on the drive as there are a few problems encountered with certain firmware. It can,
however, be upgraded/changed.
Both drives are excellent in performance, and
most importantly for consistency.

I've installed Crucial M3s and later M4s in a bunch of MBPs. No issues - but of course
back up religiously since when an SSD does fail it will be catastrophic.
I've
also dealt with Crucial returns in the past - they were quick, helpful, and replaced with
an upgrade-for-like.
