Logic Icons--recommend an alternative to a tree!
      #1056265 - 08/07/13 09:52 AM
Don't know about you chaps but I rarely have either a Tree or an Elephant on my tracks, although I do understand that if you're doing a music track for a wildlife documentary you might well need these. Anyone downloaded some more usable alternatives--especially for vocals tracks?

Sure. There are loads of icons around, eg:

http://www.logic-cafe.com/lc/index.php/free-downloads/icons-for-logic-pro< /a>

I have icons for a bunch of stuff, including software instruments and so on. Come in useful...

Easy enough to 'roll your own' too. If you want the bass player's ugly mug staring back at you...

That article is very poor by suggesting your place custom icons in the Application bundle itself (this is bad) when Logic has a specific protocol for handling custom icons.

Placing them in the app bundle is the wrong way to do it - firstly, you shouldn't really be tinkering in there, secondly, all your custom stuff can be lost when updating Logic.

Custom icons should go here:
Users/"YourUserName"/Library/Application Support/Logic/Images/Icons

Logic will use icons there in preference over the system icons, and they will continue to work even if the Logic application is deleted, overwritten, reinstalled or updated.

Still haven't found any nice ones for vocals, in particular. No big deal, naturally.

I don't appear to have an images folder in the Logic folder! I tried creating one but Logic doesn't seem to see the images. Any ideas how I can get Logic to look there for them?

It's something I've always found annoying why there are bizarre images (elephant, bird, car and bomb!) but lacking more useful images.

No, it's not there by default because most people don't bother.
Just create the folder, and name icons according to Logic's conventions. Any similarly named custom icons will replace the same factory icons.

Ie, if you put a file called "21.png" in there, Logic will use this over it's factory "21.png" file.

Make sure your pngs are all in the correct format as well...

I've been rolling my own for years. The Internet showed me how easy it is although I had to re-read the articles as my first attempts didn't work. Most amusing to see my face as an icon, but its also nice to replace the ones that I never use. If memory serves - there is one you dont want to replace as it has some code attached to it, it is the midi machine code one. I think it looks like a tape recorder. Somebody please correct me if i am wrong as i dont have Logic booted right now. Good luck.
Eric

The Tape icon is a special case - it makes that track send MMC machine control commands.

You could change the icon if you wanted, but that track would still send MMC commands

Yes, I was simply reiterating your point.

This whole forum is slowly developing into people trying to pick fault with other peoples posts.

Shame really. Glad there's still people like Desmond about I suppose.

Wasn't meant to be picky, just a joke. Sorry if it was taken in the wrong vein. Sometimes the emoticons don't work.

Sorry - fair comment Mr Longjohns. Text can be misconstrued. Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of banter mate.

I've just got a tad fecked off lately with folk trying to point score on posts.

I've left other forums because of idiots and a 'click'. Hoping SOS doesn't go that way.

No problem. It's a really friendly forum, SOS, on the whole, as you say, and long may it stay that way!

Just looked inside the App package and there's a complete set of Legacy Icons there, too. Sort of bitmapped orange thingies! Including, you'll be pleased to hear, a cat, a bow and arrow, an elephant (hooray!) and loads of other stuff I simply haven't a clue what they're meant to be. They go up to number 324. I presume I'd stick these in the new Image file in my User Library if I wanted to use one to over-ride the main icons as described above?

And number 216 is the starship Enterprise boldly going where no Logic icon has gone before! Makes the Tree feel quite normal!

Number 233 is Australia (and New Zealand). So if you've got the entire population of the southern hemisphere doing backing vocals, this is the perfect icon for you!
