HD Auto Backup
      #1090706 - 25/02/14 10:21 PM
I know there's another Time Machine thread but I didn't want to hijack.

I've never used Time Machine before (I use RAID array for work-related data).

I've got a Mac Mini at home and a 2TB drive external.

I have just bought a second 2TB to back up the first. Ideally, I'd like to "mirror" the first drive then unplug the backup and only really fire it up to back up the first drive (once a month or so).

Is this the best way to use Time Machine?

Thanks.

To make a mirror image I'd use something like super duper Here .

Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Super Duper saved me this weekend, but CCC may well be as good, I know other people here use it.

Hi Ken

Time Machine is very good at backing up your Mac's main drive to 2 or more drives, so that you're getting the same effect as a RAID system, ie. redundancy and not being reliant solely on one backup drive. This great article explains the options for you:

http://macs.about.com/od/backupsarchives/ss/Time-Machine-Wit...

I've used Time Machine for donkey's years and it just works well, incrementally or manually (you decide). A couple of 2TB Western Digital drives from Maplin handle my own backups.

Hope it helps.

Ian
