*If* it's true, and it's
good... :happy dance:
Edit: (Sorry (a bit) for the sensationalist thread
title. I figure once every five years ain't too bad...)
Edit2: If it's "Acid" I'll
do that thing where you get a little bit of vomit in the back of your throat...

I thought Mac was THE media platform? Now you say you've been waiting all this time for a
decent audio editor? :-)

You have
no idea!
Adobe Audition was a start (and it's pretty good) but it's not
SF...

well that's wat i mean. i was waiting forever for wavelab but WL7 was little
disappointing... not in features or power (it is excellent) but in design. WL6 on PC was
excellent. So what makes SF so good? I've never used it. Does it have Sonnox plugs as
standard?

Some of us started on a PC back in 1998 (so nearly went for a Mac at the time) but had
other PC users I was working with. They all used Sound Forge, and Acid at the
time as one of the most flexible and cheap editors at the time. We then went on
to use if for years for editing and mastering, and then moved over to the Mac around 05'
and obvioulsy there was nothing around like it. Tried all the OS X editors and nothing
quite hit the mark, so had to keep an old PC around to run natively, and also bought PD7
to run windows, as a guest OS, which slowed things down.. So for me and a few
other users, SF for the Mac is a good thing (finally!) especially now PEAK is dead. Will
Vegas and Acid make the switch too?

So very much crossing fingers for this to be true. I didn't quite love Peak, but after
Bias' demise this month, we need some good news. I'm currently on wave editor and while
decent, having soundforge would definitely improve workflow by a million miles...

I never said there aren't other OSX wave
editors. There are, quite a few now, including some very good ones (we've had this
discussion on previous threads before), and some pretty bad ones.
*None* of
them I find fit me, they feel wrong, or are designed in a way I don't like. DSP Quattro,
TC Spark, Soundtrack Pro, Bias Peak, Adobe Audition, Wavelab, Wave Editor - and others
too.
None of them were a patch on Soundforge for me, and Sound Forge was pretty
much the *only* reason I missed a PC.
If this *is* Soundforge (there are quite
some clues in the video, but at the same time, the MacRumors article saying they "think"
it's from Sony but I couldn't see any other reference to Sony) *and* it's well implemented
on the Mac, I'm really looking forward to it.
Up to now, Adobe Audition is
about the one that fits me best, and before that Peak (although Peak was a champion of
weird, ugly and odd design choices, as well as buggy).
We'll see...
particularly as the release new videos over the next days/weeks to give out more clues
until we know...

there is, i suppose, the possibility that the rights to develop it on another platform
have been sold on. Much like the model video game industry often relies on.

Yeah, possibly.
What we do know is that, at least
historically, Sony have categorically ignored the Mac and have never really developed any
software of note for the Mac platform - all their products are notoriously PC only.
With all the attention to Apple over the few years, it's brought a lot of
developers over or back to the Mac, which is a great thing for the platform. So it's
possible that Sony have just woken up to the Mac marketplace as one that can generate more
than just a forgettable niche revenue stream.
Or basically they've just read
my moaning rants over the years about the lack of a Mac version of SoundForge and they're
doing it just for me...

Agree
totally with this, and the reason also I have a PC around! I even tried Parallels for SF,
which is ok, but wouldnt be as good as native OS X.

The second video is up:
http://finallyonthemac.com/
A few teaser screen
glimpses...
Also the phrase "No bias here", interestingly enough...
And in the section with the guitarist, you can see a bit of the app on screen,
and it *does* look like Sound Forge... huzzah!

Different people have different ideas. Personally, I've never understood the
attraction of Soundforge. I tried all the demos up to version 6 but it always seemed slow
and cumbersome with nothing happening in real time. Audition worked much better for me -
although I'm not sure whether the Mac version shows the program in its true glory as the
newer versions have been hastily cobbled together to meet release deadlines and are
missing some features that I've found useful on older versions.

Exactly James, I went back to SF 5.0 as it
still had the direct mode which altered the file at source level directly which was
handy.
I hope it is SF for Mac, but I'm now 50/50 with Reaper!
I'm
finding Reaper does alot of things now in the timeline, as well as the ability to shuffle
things around and crossfade 'live', but hated the fact that it doesn't have true Area
Selection, and you can't save your file on the timeline as a region/item, having instead
to go to render/glue..
I think using SF for so long, I was set in my ways, but
Reaper does a lot of things simpler and much faster with more options. But everytime I say
goodbye to SF, I end up missing it like a security blanket!!
Lets hope Cockos
see the SF Mac and 'shortage of editor for OS X" and add these fews things to Reaper, and
I think I'll be set!
(I use both REAPER and SF on a Mac (SF on Parallels) but
its not ideal, maybe SF 30% and Reaper 70%)

Well, I think its about time !!! SF was clearly a great editor on the PC, doing out
of the box, WAY more than Peak. I have used SF via Fusion, so a native version is
going to speed things up a bit.
Bring it on !

Reading some of the comments on that site makes me slowly shake my head in

Agree but those people are mostly
general Mac types not pro-audo people so their opinions, despite me wanting to jump on
there and correct some impressions, aren't that valid...

So I know this is still conjecture, but does anyone use Sound Forge or should I say CD
Architect for CD burning? I would hope that when Sound Forge comes to the mac it'll enable
you to use audio units plug ins, apparently the current PC version does not access VST
plugs. Looks like Waveburner is on the way out, so I need to replace it with a
pro alternative. Bob
