Moving large chunks of automation in Logic?
      #999726 - 25/07/12 11:23 AM
Is it possible to drag or move large chunks of automation in Logic?
For instance, I want to add an extra two bars in the middle of an existing song, which has a lot of automation moves already written. So I chop the regions at the required point, and drag them forward two bars. So now the automation past that point is two bars too early. Is there a way of moving it all two bars forward, or do I have to labouriously move each individual node two bars forward?
Thanks,
Tristan.

Turn on 'Move Automation with regions' in the preferences - and yes you can do it will any or all regions selected.

Yep, that.

Or you can use the hidden track automation folder*, where you get an arrange window of the automation data is regions, as can just cut/move them as regular regions.

Or convert the automation to MIDI data, cut move the regions, and convert back, plus several things I can think of...

* To access: Open the automation event list, then open a new arrange window, and it will open on the automation folder.

You can hold shift to select many and then just drag with the mouse, i think this only works with one parameter though ..Jonnypopsical's ideal seems to be better if your doing multiple parameters - just don't forget to turn it back off afterwards, otherwise you will end up creating a mess of automation in the project later on ...done that a few times!
