Is now a good time to buy Ivy Bridge?

We're all waiting for what Intel will present at CES this coming week, but no outlets are commenting on whether their new Haswell chips will be low-power tablet and ultrabook parts only, or that there will be desktop parts as well.

Anyone here got insider info? What I really want to do is go Intel this quarter, retiring my old AMD workhorse. I would like to buy a powerful, up-to-date, efficient CPU to go in it.

The recent rumours were that the bulk of the Haswell CPUs wouldn't appear until early June (do a Google search), so unless Pete K etc. turn up and say different it appears that now would be a good time to get an Ivy Bridge system.

Hopefully they will stick with 1155 too.

No, it's going to be LGA1150.

The talk is that they will stick with 1150 for the generation after Haswell though (Broadwell).

Don't think I'm allowed to enter into discussions on such things as NDA's are in in full force, but I could probably leave this link here that is already in the public domain and suggest that it's probably worth a read.

I don't think however that it reveals much more than the points Scramble has already raised.
