Any ideas on how to reproduce this sound?

Its the main drop of the above stanton warriors tune, I've got the kick sorted and the drums, but the main tune that starts at 0:30 is just refusing to be replicated. Any ideas where I could start? I've got NI Komplete 5 but haven't had any luck with NI massive so far.

Cheers

Check out Sylenth if you are after that sort of thing, although you NI stuff should be able to get there:

Thanks, do you think that is what they used? I find it hard to tell if its just one synth, or a bass and a synth, or even more going on over the drums.

Probably not, but it does sounds like that better than a lot of soft synths.

If you mean the arpeggiated/step sequenced gated 'hooverish' type sound then it's a prety standard multiple saw waveform. Without having Massive open in front of me, it should be replicable pretty damn closely in Massive.

See if there's a multi-saw waveform or you could stack mulitple dual saw waveforms in the three oscillators and detune them slightly.

It's basically created by having multiple saw waveforms in the one sound, all detuned slightly from each other. The gating gives it a distinctive feel, as well. There's also another resonant saw wave an octave or so lower that's not gated doubling the sound which may be what is giving it some of the character you are looking for.

I'd suggest using filter drive or some subtle distortion after the fact to give it the punch.

Later on there's a sound that bears a striking resemblance to a distorted guitar sample played an octave up - it's similar to the saw in texture.

as already mentioned it's basically a 'super wave' which is gated. Sounds (from a very quick listen) like an access virus synth but 'Sylenth' (again already mentioned) or 'reFX Vangaurd' should replicate the sound very well.

Thanks for the advice, do you mean that I should detune them literally as in lower/raise their pitch by an amount? If so how much? I presume it would be a sub-semi tone amount or the notes would clash...

Or do you mean to set the unison above 1 in the voicing and to slide the "pitch cutoff" about to spread/detune the waveform?

What gating type effects do you think would be best to use in massive to get the same?

Probably sub 50 cents. You also can fatten the sound up by adding fx like chorus, distortion and a wobbly old filter, then resampling and pitching it up a few octaves.

Side chained off the hi hats.
