OK, I'm curious. Why? Is this part of some bizarre homework project over the
past few weeks?

So am I – what possible information could you glean from a survey like this, except a
string of personal preferences?
All the developers in your list have released
very different plug-ins with their own strengths, weaknesses and price-points. For what
it's worth, I've used products from three of the four (I reviewed the UAD-1 DSP card for
SOS many years ago, but never succumbed to its hardware-assisted approach), and like
individual plug-ins from each of those three very much indeed.
I wouldn't
however like to pick out just one as my favourite though

It's a very odd list, and misses out all of my favourites.

Is a favourite plug-in some magical way to musical perfection? Surely it is the proper
use and understanding of the plug-in you already have which matters more? It seems to
me that there are those of us who still think that spending money on that 'one I don't
have' will bring success I make
the comment on the assumption that the original poster intends to go out and buy plug-ins
from the most voted for brand. Maybe I am totally wrong

Four plugin makers out of the dozens out there? And what possible information could this
give you?

Yep. It's really getting too easy round here. "which music
technology course should I do?" = 5 pages, essays, accusations of snobbery, musings about
young people, education, industry decline...

Like a carpenter or mechanic, you buy a tool to solve a problem. Not because it was made
by manufacturer X or Y.
Buying stuff 'just because everyone else has them or
they are popular' is just silly....

I voted for Waves merely to accommodate your poll, but I really wish you had offered more
choice (or an option for 'none of the above'!). I mean, UAD requires Apple, yes? Well
then, some 85% or more won't be able to vote for those because of the system they own and
use. I just heard again that Apple holds no more than 12% of market share.
How about a poll offering the choice of plugs made with the old SynthEdit? (he he!) So
many of the older SynthEdit plugins are DAW killers. I've known a few.

FabFilter. I won't lie, their EQ doesn't sound 'amazing' but it has some nice options and
easy to use. Pro-C is the sidechain compressor I always go to. Can't say I massively like
any plugin developer on the list.

smash, I totally agree! FabFilter is a great plugin -- an extreme toy to those who don't
know how to run it, but it's very useful for certain unusual EQ needs and the like. This
one resides in my VST sub-folder of the extreme, bizarre and special-duty. Speaking of
which, if you like this one, there is another that is free called Fromage by OhmForce. If
you haven't tried it, I think it might interest you. It does another sort of extreme
filtering and has been employed on several top productions, including at least one Peter
Gabriel tune. Cheers!

Pro-Q really isn't a transaprent EQ plugin, which when you have some right nasty
frequncy going on, can be great to just notch it out. I tried Fromage a year or 2 back but
I just can't abide by that interface. They took the cheese idea a little too literally.

Oh, silly me. Was a busy day and got AU all mixed up with UAD. No, I am not dyslexic.
Still puzzled at the choice of those and not others equally or more popular. I don't even
like the IK Multimedia company and its registration process and, otherwise, am only
familiar with Waves of these.
