Pc stuck at bios boot screen
      #992311 - 11/06/12 01:00 PM
Hi, my i7 home built daw is stuck at the bios boot up screen.

I can not even enter the bios with the wired keyboard attached.

I have tried to power down even cutting off the power supply but nothing seems to help.

The lights on the keyboard come on for a second and then nothing.

What do I need to do next?

Many thanks for any help.

You could try manually resetting the BIOS by removing the battery & jumpering across the cmos reset pins on the motherboard. The motherboard manual will give reference to this.

You will need to re do your bios settings after this, but you should be able to get into the bios set up after doing this reset.

let us know how you get on.:)

Any beeps? If so, report how many, and what bios. Or look up the codes for yourself!

Try with all cards removed.

But I'm guessing this is bad RAM, or badly-seated RAM. Take it all out, try just one stick at a time. Go through the obvious procedure to discover WHICH stick is bad.

You've had problems with this computer before I think? Remind us what it was last time? (Or was it someone else with a similar name?)

Personally with all non boot problems, I like to try and boot the computer from a LINUX Live CD to see what happens

I know it won't fix the problem but can often proves what works and what doesn't

If it is memory then of course a LINIX Live CD wil not boot as it loads the OS into memory
