Heard him talking about it on Radio 4 this morning. It seems he has completely re-recorded the whole thing, with contemporary singers including Gary Barlow, Maverick Sabre, Joss Stone, Alex Clare, and Ricky Wilson... with Liam Neeson as the narrator. Apparently only the 'ooh-la' war cry sound of the Martian machines has been retained from the original (because they "couldn't make it sound any better")!

Not sure if this is a cynical re-issue to fund his pension by cashing in on a new generation of audience who will buy it to hear their contemporary vocalists... or whether it really is bringing a genuinely new interpretation of a much loved classic. I strongly suspect the former!

My fears exactly Hugh!.. I really can't see them matching the voices of Phil Lynott and Julie Covington with any current offerings, but I guess will shall see..

..Surely it can't be a bigger flop than Spartacus was
