No!

We'll still want cables for our analogue devices

Hmmm.
Not for a long time I'd think. Besides, do you really want to use wireless devices for precision audio on an unregulated part of the spectrum?

me I'm just the guitar player, I'm still using a long cable rather than a radio link on stage!

I was just wondering what you guys thought. It would of course become regulated once it became widespread, and only a 10m range anyway. Still I would have thought it would one day impact on the audio world, maybe. There again, the paperless office never happened. Wouldn't it be quite useful though, alongside the cables. I'm imagining a drum booth with multiple mics going to an AD interface which connects wireless to the control room. Or something. You guys can surely think of a use for it?

I agree it's a nice idea in principle, it's just that, so far, all the great ideas I've heard of seem to have some unexpected problem.

There is a common observation in the live sound scene that goes along the lines of "The best radio mic you can buy is nearly, but only nearly, as good as a £15 cable!").

RF links are not loved from a reliability standpoint and while they have their place, and make possible things that cannot be done any other way, where there is a choice almost all engineers would rather have a cable.

I see nothing to make me think this technology would be any different.

Regards, Dan.

You might have missed where I mentioned I still use a cable on stage, no radio link for me yet! Live for sure is about reliability, but what about say a home recording set up? Drummer in the bathroom, singer in the living room etc. instant isolation booths without a cable in sight. Not for awhile but one day? I'm not championing this by the way, just wondering what a 21st century studio will look like in a decade or two.
