Paul Weller vocal mic for recording?

Hi. Anybody happen to know what mic Paul uses in the studio (in general)?
Could have sworn I saw a recent clip of him with one of the newer AKG 414s (which I
understood to be not too good, at least not compared to the older ones).

At Black Barn they have 87's, 414s (an old AEA 440 which normally lives on the cieling)
and assorted dynamics. There aren't any 47's, 251's or C12s etc etc. He's not really into
fancy recording gear. So while he's at home at least, it's nothing posh. J

Depends how you
define 'not too good'. In any technical comparison the current generation out-perform the
older ones in terms of self-noise, distortion, and bandwidth.
But the sound
character is not exactly the same, and people like to hang mythical status on old things
that they don't have or can't afford...
99 times out of a hundred, the mic doesn't matter very much. It's all about what the
performer delivers, where they are performing, and where the microphone is placed.

Is there nothing in the SOS feature on the recording of SoniK Kicks, his vocals on this
record are the best I've ever heard them. & I don't mean the singing - or at least
don't think I do, it's just that the vocals engage you in a way his voice hasn't (for me
at least) for many a year.
