Mixing Drum n Bass advice needed!
      #1040793 - 01/04/13 06:53 PM
I have produce a Liquid Drum and Bass track recently. I have got all synthesised in it, except a piano and violin, which are recorded in a studio. Can someone give me an advice to get the violin sound right. I've mixed in a piano pretty well, but struggling with the violin.

There is the track:

Violin, being a "natural" acoustic sound, is less tolerant to tonal modification than other "electronic" sounds. You've written an arrangement that is pretty full-on frequency-wise for the whole piece, and trying to squeeze a violin in there is going to be tough.

Case in point, right now it sounds more like an oboe.

Try use the 1KHz region less, and increase the 5-12KHz region. You will probably need to reduce the level or the HF content of some of your other synths to leave room.

I lowered a couple db down in area from 1kHz - 5-7kHz of my mix (without violin).
I pushed violin a bit further with delay, cuz it has got a bit close in a mix, pushed a notch up in 1-5 kHz for violin.
Is that better? Still sounds like oboe to me.

Maybe I should leave a track without violin at all?
The person who played it really wants it in, i suppose.
