For a first track it is alright, but for your market, it is too short and moves from
section to section a little quickly.
The bass line is a bit untamed, the high
hats are lost in the mix and the snare gets lost later on in the track.
kick a single sample at the beginning or is it layered? If it is layered there is one I
don't like the sound of, but nothing sounds puny, as you put it. For house and 4/4 music
the 909 is a good standard kick to use either on its own or layered with something else.
Keep working at it or move on and try another track, you will constantly learn
the more you do it. The best advice is always to compare your track with tracks you like,
checking the balance of sound and also the structure of the track.
