Monitors, acoustics and panning issues

Hey everyone, another puzzler for you. I have a pair of Alesis M1Active 520 USB monitor speakers, and snares and vocals (only) all sound about 20% panned to the right. Upon swapping the speakers around, they're in the middle where they're meant to be. How is this possible? If it was the room (which I've moved around in to test) then swapping would make NO difference, and if it were the speakers, swapping would cause 20% panning to the left surely, and not centred....

I've exchanged these already, since I'm sure the previous pair had a dodgy left tweeter (noticeable when soloing each monitor), which gave me the same panning problem as I have now. I'm sure this pair doesn't have this problem though. Is this product f**ked by default? No one else seems to have this problem though.

Any input would be great. Driving me crazy!
