Overblown kick in this month's mix rescue?

Hello,

This month's mix rescue by Gordon McNeil brings to mind the leveling choices of the Kaiser Chiefs' 2008 album (especially Always Happens Like That [Spotify Link]). While I thought the rather loud bass sound on Off With Their Heads sounded quite cool when it was first released, I'm not sure I think the big kick drum sound fits the Rio Callahan track nearly as good.

Any other opinions on this kind of very prominent leveling/separation/EQ choices?

It's certainly dominant, but what is 'overblown' is a bit of a subjective thing. I quite like kick and bass being really prominent on this sort of material. But the the artists themselves seem to be caught in two minds about this one. I suppose it would be a dull world if everyone balanced everything the same! I definitely liked this mix better than the original one; though would probably not have mixed it quite like this myself.
