David Gilmour style delay in Pro Tools
      #994410 - 24/06/12 12:11 AM
Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of recording a song that requires a David Gilmour style delay on the guitar track. I'm using Pro Tools 8.0.5 and the delay I'm probably going to use on the track is a Waves H delay. What I want to be able to do is use the same settings in Pro Tools as I did on my pedal board with a TC Nova, but there are more controls on the H delay and not sure how to set it up to be accurate to that Gilmour sound. In the user guide it says to have the Wet/Dry ratio at 100% if you're going to be using the H delay in an aux track (which I am. My question is what is the difference the bus fader, the track fader and the output control on the Delay plugin itself? If anyone can help I'd appreciate it a lot, thanks.

hey..

There's no real difference between the faders, They just effect different things.
Your track fader will change the volume of the actual guitar track. This will not effect your delay effect in any way, (unless your Aux send is post fader) if you are using aux send for the delay.
The Output fader from the plugin simply effects the output volume of that plugin, independently of any other volume fader.
The Aux Fader is essentially a track fader for your Aux return, so will alter the volume of all signals coming through that aux return.

If you simply want to alter the volume of the delay, you can ether use the plugins output volume, or the Aux fader. If, you want to send more signal to the delay, you will need to alter the Aux send from your guitar track.

I usually find that with delays, especially in busy tracks, its useful to automate the aux send to control the amount of delay your getting. ( less in busy sections, more in quiet sections )

cheers

ps. Have your tried Steve Masseys tape delay??
