Lead Vox: Timing edits vs. Tuning edits - does it matter which is done first?
      #996324 - 05/07/12 12:49 PM
I'm in Cubase 6.5, and will be doing the timing edits (sorry, by this I mean not just sliding, but also a bit of stretching/scrunching notes, etc.) and bouncing using the Elastique Pro algorithms. All this will be done outside of VariAudio, because it only has access to the "Standard" algorithm for stretching/scrunching.

Is there any reason to consider doing these timing manipulations before tuning ones, or vice versa? My goal is small-level changes with both techniques, nothing Cher- or Rebecca Black-like.

Thanks for any thoughts!

i would probably tune first and shift later - depends on the source material / amount of work reqd

I would have said the opposite! Timing first then tuning, especially with Cubase as you can do the edits, bounce the audio and then run the pitch correction on the bounced file.

Some pointers on using VariAudio

I know you're not, but if you were using Melodyne definitely adjust your timing first before tuning. Unless, of course, you are doing both within Melodyne. Awesome software...
