Would anyone like to listen to this '80s (re)mix?

I recently finished this for a remix competition. I'd just like to know what you think about the overall sound: - http://soundcloud.com/digitalnativedance/bikslow-artanist

Wow! It's like I'm back in 1985. I love this stuff. I'd say it's better than the original, but then I am 48.

Fantastic job. I really like your original stuff too.

Great thanks!

On the whole I think the mix sounds a little bit darker than it should be. But I think everything fits together ok..

Sounds bright and crisp enough to me. I guess a mastering engineer could sort out the tiny timbral nuances, but this is pretty sharp straight away.

Great job

Sounds good to me. Listening on moderately good kit, the only thing missing was the strobe lights

Thanks guys! It turns out I won 3rd place in the competition and they're going to release my track as part of the EP. They also asked me to send the unmastered version so they can master it themselves. It will be interesting to see what they do with it!

Great job - really in yer face!

Congrats on getting the release - fully deserved.

What did you use to make it i.e. what's your set-up? (I'm sure others would like to know too.)

My setup is pretty uninteresting as I use entirely software for instruments and effects.

I use Native Instruments, especially FM8 for DX7 sounds and Pro53 (the Prophet 5 emulation). I also use Arturia synths (Jupiter 8, Mini Moog, Prophet VS) and the Korg M1 soft synth. For drums and some other effects I use samples from various libraries such as 'Vengeance essential house' and samples taken from 80s drum machines like the Linn 1 and 2 etc.

For audio plugins I mainly use the Cubase 5's bundled stuff but also Antress compressors and EQ (really good freeware I'd recommend), Lexicon PCM native (almost always the vintage plate - very expensive plugin(s) but very important for the sound and well worth it). The only hardware instrument I actually have is my Strat and Les Paul which I record direct into my interface and process with Guitar Rig 3 to get the sound I need.

My studio monitors are Mackie MR5 MkIIs. Audio interface is Emu 1616m PCIe. DAW is a 4 year old PC with windows XP32 (still). I would upgrade to Windows 7 but theres no guarantee my interface would still be happy so...

Hope this helps
