Hey all

Has anyone here used any of this companies products?
I came across one of their AD converters while browsing around and reading about various products.

http://www.rdlnet.com/product.php?page=506

They seem to aim for every market other than music/studio production specifically but some of their products still look interesting.
Canford sells some of their AD/DA devices.
I can't find any reviews of their products bar a few mentions on forums.

So has anyone seen any around in a studio setting and if so how do they stack up against the more well know stuff? Be interesting to find out.

There are a few broadcast oriented companies (Sonifex comes to mind) who offer gear that would be useful to other markets. I took a bit of a chance on a Sonifex RB-ADDA a few years ago and I'm pleased that I did. I found that there isn't much in the middle ground as far as ADC's/DAC's are concerned and the RB-ADDA is decent sounding convertor at a reasonable price (though the RB-ADDA2 looks more convenient to use).

James.

I have never used that particular unit, but everything I have had from RDL over the years has done what it said on the tin.

RDL, Sonifex, Alice, it is all solid kit even if not marketed at studios (The prosumer market is marketing heavy, support heavy, thin margin, and generally a complete pain in the tail).

Regards, Dan.

Yeah, I've seen the Sonifex stuff in particular and though it looked good.
I finally feel I'm at the point where I'll actually be able to benefit from proper converters in my setup, but it's daunting.

I really have no way of comparing anything with experience since I'll be buying my first set of converters. So reviews and opinion is what I'm going on, if I can't actually get stuff to test.

There are so many products at so many price points. I always try to buy so that I won't have to replace for ages, but whatever I get will be an upgrade.

I've also found this guy...

http://rossmartinaudio.com/

I've read good things about his PCM4222 AD. Which might be a nice first step, then I can pair it with a DAC he makes or something else. His website is a mess but the products are solid apparently.

This was all prompted by the purchase of some Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm cans. Which needed an amp... Which led me to

http://epiphany-acoustics.co.uk/our-products/ehp-o2d-miniature-desktop-hea dphone-amplifier-with-usb-dac/

Just using that DAC with these lovely headphones has made me realise I can hear the differences with this slight change in equipment. It is a revelation...
So I figure upgrading the AD side will benefit my recording quality etc

and since this DAC is in a headphone amp and won't run to my studio monitors I'm on the lookout for a full sized DAC too.

You're not alone -- CEDAR rebadge the same units as the converters for their Cambridge audio restoration system.
