You're right matey. I copied it and pasted it in and it won't let me post it either.

Hmmm, will have to ponder that one.

hiya MW

not sure what was going on it seems to be fine now...

but every time i tried it would sit there thinking for a few minutes, then take me to an empty page with just the SOS banner on it...

some of the links are broken - i've found the menu that drops down from the forum button works OK, but if you just click the button (which i was trying at first) it takes you to the old infopop. so does the link at the bottom of the page...

Statick - just replied to your old forum post, and forwarded it to Ian so he knows what's going on.

Bit weird, it is not the length of post that does it, cos I just created a huge random text post about four times that length and it was fine.

Temporary gremlin or just didn't like what you said Stat?

Yes, the top forum banner entry does still take you to the old forum. I suspect that's intentional - only those who specifically want to explore the new forum via the other links get here for the next few days until the old one is forever frozen in time, left to the vagaries of wind and dust.

I expect we'll have a few wrinkles during the changeover phase (although I suspect Ian's probably got most of them from setting it up in the first place )

It is definitely different, that is for sure, but it seems to be working for the most part. I had a lot of the same problems as Statick, lots of security messages, etc.

I tried to post a signature, but it kept telling me that the sig was too long, and go back and fix it. The max length is 100 characters, but I had less than 40! I think it has to do with the line feeds. If I make my sig "DH" it works, but as soon as I press ENTER twice to get a double-spaced sig, it gives me the error...Can you pass this along too Martin?

Thanks!

Otherwise...lookin' good!!!

I have had a few problems this morning - more to do with the forum loggin me out after I have posted, or giving me a spurious error message to do with filling in all the fields on a post (I figured that one out - it took me a long time to compose the post - and it must have lost my session half way through the composition - so then when I cam to post hence a funny error message)

This is definately a locking problem - Martin are you there???
I only get logged out or error messages when I am posting a reply to an existing topic and somebody else is posting at the same time.....
I composed my last message - when there was no replies - when I posted and got logged out again - then I cam back in and found out that there were 2 replies before my error'd post...
Never happened when I am the first one to reply
(if that makes sense...)

Teething problems? new [Re: Statick]
      #1114 - 01/09/04 01:40 PM
Statick et al,

Not sure why you cannot post the message you attempted to and refer to in the old forum, but we're looking into that. Message length is unlimited AFAIK. No deliberate censorship going on here, but there is lots of security code working to stop people including javascript and such-like in their posts, as this forum now runs on our servers and if they hack it it's SOS that gets hurt now not Infopop!!

Please bear with us and we'll overcome things. A lot of it is not the forum not working, but the main registration catching people out. We have code to prevent duplicate emails, dupe IPs, and lookups of whether emails are real or fake etc, and there's a heck of a lot going on backstage/under the hood.

Will be back later to answer more questions...

Ian

Grrrr...everytime I make a move (like trying to edit my profile), I keep getting logged off, and have to re-log back in again, with all the security messages, etc. Hopefully, somebody will get this straightened out soon, I have faith in Ian and Company!!!

It would appear somebody has rated DH as a 1 star user - (a load of pants by the way as his Mic help is always excellent)... I just rated him a five and he has averaged out to a three...

Reg, I gave you red balls... It's not catching though

When you click ona User Id, at the bottom of the profile screen, there isa "rate this user" option.

you can then select 1 to 5 "stars" (that look like red balls) and the displayed result is an average of everyone's rating of a person.

Now I've explained, I trust you lot won't abuse the feature TOO much in the rush of new toy excitement...

Max

Thanks reg!!! I feel better now that I have *some* balls!

I have a feeling that the balls issue is going to turn into a popularity contest, and they will go away eventually. I've seen several forums make attempts to use them when they upgrade the software, and without fail, they remove them in a very short time.

An attempt to see if we can fairly rate each other in terms of - I dunno - good motives and trustworthy advice and such like...

I think we'll just have to wait and see how that works...
