Not showing desk, multicore etc as most of my recording's done on location; that's really just my mixdown / overdub setup so looks BORING AS HELL

Of particluar interest in this pic is that Red has 2 extra eyes for the 4 monitors,
one on his left ear, one on his fore'ead

The trilby on the left which is a headrest.

The sweets on the left possibly jellybeans.

And the excellent foilage on the outside.

Really must do something to tidy those cables away.
Compact and bijou - there are 2 keyboards, a 2x12 guitar combo and a leccy drum kit squeezed in there.

Cool.

Great pics folks.

Can we now assume that there will be two more threads started...?

1. What's your address?
2. What's the disable code for your burglar alarm?

SSSSShhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Damnit! SShhh!

No but seriously folks. Thank for the (overwhelming) response. You have given me so many ideas and it really does help to visualise the workspace. It's interesting how a lot of people have roughly the same set-up, and I can only put that down to knowing what you're doing.

THANKS!

Keep them coming!

PS. is this worth a sticky?

Here's my small control room

And my live room

There is now an AC30 between the sofa and the shelves

All these boxes are gone now and this is where my Powerbook, HHB Circle 5's, Motu 828 and the keyboard live for writing outside the control room.

This are the double doors back into the control room and my guitars.

All the best.

I have noticed that a LOT of the pictures in this thread show that almost everyone is using 2 monitors (PC screens, not speakers). Is that something that is standard across the music packages or is it specific to Pro Tools?

I have a laptop with Cubase SE3 and will therefore continue recording with just a single screen for the time being, but it was just a curious observation. I imagine it's just for having more things open at the same time no?

Finger.

A slightly out of date pic of mine

There is now another 17" monitor, and the updated gear rack.

A more recent pic of my gear rack is

2 monitors isnt specific to pro tools, i use 64 studio linux and have the 2 monitors for Ardour, i like to have my mixer open on the right so i can adjust levels without switching between windows.

I do it because
a) it gives me more space for aranging and mixing music
b) I can see 2 programs at the same time (using all 4 of my eyes)
c) It looks cool

Can be done with any PC with a daul output GFX card and with any program that is resizeable.

Good stuff.

As someone pointed out recently, an advantage of 3 (side-by-side) is you avoid having screen edge slap bang in the middle of your field of vision.

Nice those are the RP5's aren't they?

Got a question regarding those. Is it worth getting the RP10s woofer to go with that or will the RP5's suffice in any small studio setting?

I really like the sound of the KRK's, though these are actually the 8s not the 5s.

The 5s are very small and it may be better to look at both the 6s and the 8s.

The 8s have loads of bass and I imagine the 6s do too.

Is there a freeware progra I can download that will split the screens? Otherwise I am predicting that I will just get 2 screens showing the same thing should I decided to plug another monitor into my laptop?

Snigger. I'm out in the sticks, so powercuts are an almost daily occurrence.

No power = no work
No work = no pay

Hence each PC is on its own dedicated 450va, the DAW and servers on 750va each, and the audio hardware on 3000, and the network on 2200. All covered, and can keep working for about 28mins, which is usually enough. After that, the music stuff goes offline but the server and network stays up for 108 mins.

you can probably google somewhere to find exact instructions, but you do not need and s/w.

go to control panel / display / setting and you should find the option for two monitors via a drop down menu, you also need to check the extend desktop to this monitor. this wil allow you to drag any window to the second screen. It takes a little bit of getting used to.
