It's not going to go away is it...

"are you on MysPace" the first question a guy in the audience asked me after coming of stage on Tuesday.
I just think it's lame, like a no frills own brand generic corn flakes of a website. The macDonalds of web hosting.

Also, i don't like doing something because everyone else is doing something, goes against the grain and it pissess me off that i have to. And i do have to, it seems.

Anyway, enough ranting, I guess I'm going to have to put some effort into making it work, but do hope it goes away eventualy!

The key changes are a bit too obvious for my taste and the drums are unsatisfyingly lumpy. Plus some strange rhythmic things that sound like unquantised errors or something.

Just my opinion, don't let me put you off!

I have just put up a couple of songs but it will probably change when I have finished more. One thing, I notice the levels of other artists' songs on this thread have higher levels than mine. I pushed the master volume as far as it would go in Cubase SX3 as well as using a maximiser but it still sounds pretty low on my PC. I would apreciate it if you could give me feedback on what I could do to beef it up a bit though they are more ambient tracks. They sound very punchy and loud coming from my mixer, but not on the PC.

try borrowing a set of monitoring headphones, sounds like a monitoring problem. which i have had myself. i bought a set of studio monitoring headphones, and now my tunes have full balance throughout!. but i do suggest an investment in monitors like tascam or soundcraft! you will notice the difference straight away when you make a fresh tune. or the other thing is too make sure your samples have the right velocity before they are modified, you can loose alot of highend, or even distort them without realising.. i just monitor each track separtly as i go along, tis far easier!!!n well i hope this helps, if not aim me,fu6012@aim.com. and ill speak to a few enginering bods i know of.

Possibly should start a new thread with this, but why don't people make tracks downloadable?

MySpace is so sh1te at streaming that I virtually never get to hear any bands that stream their stuff (especially in the afternoon when the Yanks get up), whereas downloading normally works. In fact, if I don't see the download link available, and I feel I might not like the music, I don't bother - the band has just lost the opportunity to persuade me.

Are bands really that paranoid about making stuff downloadable? Honestly if I thought people liked my stuff enough to download and keep on their ipods I would do everything I could to assist that!

So: NO to streaming only: YEY to downloadable.

go on - just make the one track downloadable, even if you inisist on streaming the rest (for your own paranoid reasons....!)

That track f*** the pain away. Hope youve got that on vinyl hawking it round the clubs. The vocal is a bit too quiet though imho. It would be good if there were some stings in there too, to keep the interest, nothing too much, just a few mindbenders. Great track that. BTW i dont have a clue about dance, don't listen to it. But i thought that one was great and has real appeal.

I had it played on someone's Radio show and they threatened to play it out at their club live, to which I said "please do!"

Never found if they did though.

I kinda agree about the vocals now too, maybe I'll upload a newer version of it sometime in the near future.

I've now listened to about a 5th of the myspace links in this thread and I am really impressed! There's such variety, which is good, but also a lot of talent and original ideas.

Some great production, some downright funny [ ****** ], some simple but professional sounding catchy bands, some quite nice electronica.

I'm enjoying this!

Hope you don't mind if I add a load of you to my myspace friends list...

Junior Blanks - band I was part of for many years, but never released an album. You can download two albums worth of stuff for free from the main blanks site.

Kicks & Rock - me and the singer from Junior Blanks made some frankly very silly bouncy dance tunes a few years back, which were released as a vinyl EP on West earlier this year. There's a newer, unreleased track up there too.

What I do have trouble with is downloads, where Myspace seems to go with 1-word titles, so I have several 'The's and 'I's! This isn't helped if people don't bother to put in song info when they encode the MP3...

I have a myspace thingy, it's just me and my guitar really, I also have some really good photos as I work on a research station in the Antarctic, anyway, have a look if you are bored. There are a couple of recordings on there but we have very limited recording gear here, i.e a camcorder mic plugged into my laptop, anyway, you'll get the idea.

I just couldn't resist!! I've still got a bit of tweaking to be done, some of the CSS markup isn't quite right for firefox...

On that note a quick rant on how badly myspace is designed, the aweful choice of tag names, and how they've dug themselfs into a huge hole when it comes to changing, upgrading or securing there system! (close rant! )

Hey Tachikoma, I believe i was one of you first 'profile views'!

Really liked the first track "You know i never ca..." (came? call?) Nice chilled backdrop to the gales blowing outside in the dawning twilight of south london this morning.
Nice and laid back electronic material. I also dabble in similar territories. The addition of Joy was a nice touch.

hey thanks man, you were probably my first view. and since it's coming from the Real musiclover, I know i'm gettin' the real goods

you know i'd never have gotten on myspace if it wasn't for SOS forums, i didnt think it was worthwhile --- but despite the mixed reviews the system got, some people said it drove traffic their way.

anyway good to hear the good vibes.... mine is music that's supposed to mix w/ the background, glad you picked up on that!!

I wrote this track using a Korg Triton Le, I made good use of the joystick on the Triton, bending the notes, The lead part starts just after the middle of the track, well worth a listen, it called Around The Houses www.myspace.com/kjherbert another track is called M6 North can be found on www.myspace.com/kevinjherbert you can pics of my studio

Nice little intro. The drums, when they kick in, need more umph! They are extremely weedy. I think you probably need to thin down the strings at that point by stripping out some of the frequencies. That will give the drum and percussion some room to breathe.
