BE Warned
10.4.3 seems to have odd glitches... like messing up some people's
address book contacts... So back up ALL your data before updating.
Nothing
else more serious yet discovered... but that one is a confirmed Bug, in multiple users
systems.

I read a post on Macnn about a known glitch in 10.4.3 which affects users of M-audio pci
based audio interfaces. Folks upgrading beware!
So far so good for me
here..

It doesn't like Delta drivers at all.......
Card just doesn't work, even after
all the uninstall/reinstall/permissions repair process....
Keep clear if you
have a Delta card!

I hope this doesn't happen to my Lacie. Will try when I get home - thanks for the heads

Seems to work alright on my setup, finger crossed, even though I too experienced the LaCie
drives going ballistic syndrome, and plenty of general HD frenzy that seems to have
settled down (indexing?). However, I get the impression that startup time has become
slightly longer. A.

users of Online banking services need to be aware that many such services have an "issue"
with the OS 10.4.3 and Safari 2.02 .
Nat west for example .. is completely
non functional ... they are working on a fix, but it may be a little while.
assorted others also report new problems.
Check BEFORE you
upgrade....
Also, I'm having a problem getting permissions to correctly
update... the Widget system seems to be the bit that's glitchy.

not entirely a happy bunny here... aside form the issues already mentioned.... I upgraded the Studio G5, as the G5 iMac seemed to survive it reasonably well...

Cheers Jaffi, but It was installed at the same time as 10.4.3 on my system.
Those wishing to roll back, sadly, unless apple did something useful over the weekend,
there isn't an "easy" straight forward method .
basically start up from a
bootable external or optical System disk, delete the OS on the normal system drive, then
re-install the OS and any additional drivers etc...
obviously this wipes out
any system preferences and settings, and drivers etc etc, so a lot of re-installation and
re-authorisation will be required.
NOTE, this involves deleting the operating
system, NOT re-initialising or deleting the Hard drive..... Initialising the HD WILL
lose ALL your Data....
it's a pain in the arse in simple terms.
Better IMHO, to work around the issues for the moment, and bug report all issues to
Apple... the More "proper" Bug reports they get, the faster they are likely to do
something about it.
so EVERY time something "falls over" DO send a report to
Apple....

Upgraded without reading any of the above naturally!!! Everything was fine until I opened
Digital Performer, loaded the song I was working on and hit Play - no sound apart from the
vocal track! Opened Audio Midi Setup to find my audio interface (MOTU 828) greyed out.
Fiddled aound with settings, Rescanned, reloaded latest MOTU driver and all was well until
the following day when nothing would get the darn thing to be recognised. Finally started
pulling USB and Firewire plugs out at random and the MOTU lit up as soon as I replugged
the Firewire cable. No problems since, touch wood (taps head).

I've had no probs at all on my 1.33 iBook 12". I had the usual disk thrashing on startup,
which subsided after about 3 minutes as OSX re-indexed everything, but apart from that all
is well.
Except that annoying 'balance' issue where occasionally the balance on
the system audio output goes off center is still there. Damnit!
Apart from
that, I haven't noticed any changes. I don't currently have an external soundcard for my
iBook, so I can't comment on drivers. But to those ppl with external HDDs, if your hard
disks stopped 'thrashing' after 5 minutes or so, then there's nothing to worry about, it's
just OSX doing it's 'housekeeping'.
Safari may well be slower, but I
wouldn't know, since I don't use safari! Haha real men use firefox (it's a bit of a pain
to get it setup, since you have to install 2 or 3 things to get it looking nice in OSX,
but once you do, it's worth the trouble).

When you consider that Spotlight has to
analyze EVERY file on the hard drive to create a catalog, it's amazing the process occurs
as fast as it does. IMO, the Spotlight search is an amazing improvement, being able to
find almost any search term, even in e-mails, etc.
FWIW, the word on the street
is that OS X 10.4.4 has been released to developers for testing, and one of the reported
improvements pertain to core audio issues (such as the ones some of you guys are
encountering)...

After long deliberation, I finally took the plunge today and installed 10.4.3.
My initial impression was that my studio G4 was substantially slower after the upgrade -
virtually all applications needed roughly double the normal time to start up.
I
then downloaded a rather CPU-demanding session I'm currently working on in Pro Tools LE
6.9.2. It played back fine, though CPU overhead seemed to be affected negatively after the
upgrade, though only by a touch. At times PT felt sluggish, though audio playback was not
affected and there were no glitches and other hickups as such.
A few hours
after the upgrade my system is back to its normal operating speed though I still think CPU
performance is pushed a little harder under Pro Tools with bigger sessions.
Cheers, Frank

My Powerbook internal hard disc recently died - luckily I was on the Protection Plan thing
so hopefully Apple are fixing it. Anyway, I'd intend to go up to Pro Tools LE 7 when the
time comes to re-install everything but PT 7 only seems to work on Tiger (I'm on 10.3.9)
and Apple are only shipping 10.4.3 now. I'm not entirely sure if I want to take the step
of moving up to 10.4.3 if there are still problems with it.
