I'd like to recommend Absolute Music in Poole.
I have an old friend who works there in the guitar workshop and I have found the entire team to be helpful beyond what one usually expects these days.
Good prices too. My experience is they are new and motivated to give god service.

(Just don't go there if you are going to give them a hard time as they are very nice and don't deserve that.)

I've done DV (got an old friend there too), Thoman etc but right now I'm happy with Absolute Music.
Cheers

Sounds like my sort of shop! I could have a walk across the harbour while down there as well.

I too am a fan of Absolute Music... I've had several dealings with them by telephone over the last few months. Always very pleasant and helpful. Prices are usually very competitive too! Now my first port of call...

Digital Village Essex are excellent. Have used them a few times. I was able to change shipping addresses on orders after the fact and painlessly. Delivery was always notified in advance by SMS including 1 hour window and always within the first 10 minutes of that window. Admin responded to emails within 20 minutes. Highly recommended.

They're a big operation, there will be good and bad anecdotes about them. I live quite near. I've called to confirm an item was in stock, got there and it wasn't. I've had an order delivered with the wrong items, the promised time-of-delivery text never arrived and they chose the 10 minutes when I'd popped out :-( I've also had an expensive keyboard swapped without argument when a key collapsed on its first outing.

They're a shop. Like every other shop, they'll price-match. Not much more to say really. Don't fall in love with a shop, or in hate :-)

Maybe, but it's important to redress the balance here.

The original poster was going on about out-of-stock products but instead of just cancelling his order and shopping elsewhere, decided to slag off a perfectly good company on a public website. The audio community is very small and this kind of crap has a knock on effect.

So yeah, I don't "love" them. But its important for other people readign to know that some of us get great service from them. I've let them know as much in their feedback.

If you act like a knob, people will treat you like a knob, and that's what has happened here: I think people can read between the lines in ridiculous rants like the one in this thread.

Maybe the original poster was a little reactionary, but here's my DV tale-of-woe thread, and I was not rewarded for my even-handed patience.

Is this where Hugh Robjohns threatens me with being banned again because I reply to your trolling with a caustic blast so vituperative that it almost melts the Internets...?

Oh, and meanwhile, I still haven't got a fully working soundcard from GAK, as the one they made me wait a week for was faulty, and it was going to be another fortnight before they got more in stock, but that's slipped to 3 weeks now.
At this rate I could have hitched-hiked to Thomann's warehouse and back.

What's the problem?

Yes, hopefully it helps retailers to stop being crap, because otherwise they'll go out of business

I was complaining that their website was making false claims about stock availability and delivery times.
And that they debited my card and then used the money to go and place the order.
And when I rang up to try ask them 'Where's My Stuff?', and got fobbed about with a load of useless flannel where they couldn't confirm when it would be fulfilled.
Since the above way of doing business is against the law, I don't feel I have to seek your approval before moaning about it in public.

Doing damage to their rep on a public, indexed forum does more harm to their business than occasional stock glitches. Because they are occasional.

And if you're going to quote me, don't change the content.

...And, DV24-7 just went bankrupt.
http://theeccentricblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/digital-village.html?m=1
And under rather unethical circumstances by the sound of that article.

Re-reading this thread, I can't say I'm surprised.

They've been bought out by Music Store Germany, and 7 stores in the UK will close.

There is a possibility that DV247 will be even worse than before....
