I have an account on a website I need to upload work to. They have given me the username
and password which works from their end. Everytime I try to login with the password given
in Chrome, I get this message "login failed. Check your username and password
and try again. 530 access denied" I have no idea what to do about this it is
not an error.

http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WS-19980508-BK03.htmIt's a
standard FTP log-in error message. The FTP server doesn't want to let you in. If the user and password details are correct and work from their end, then I suspect the
FTP server is set up to only allow log-ins from approved IP addresses. hugh

I think there's a virus that masquerades as Chrome by the way.
All my .html
docs were all of a sudden opened with Chrome, and there seemed to be two versions of
chrome.exe and there were two programs listed in CP's installed programs. My computer did
have a virus, and I'm pretty sure that was part of it, but I did system restore too so I
can't be sure.

Hugh, I did try explorer a while ago and it worked but now it doesn't. I think
Chrome is the culprit as it might have it's hooks in explorer. Another weird thing that
happens when I access certain websites (and it seems random) is a blue screen serious
error and the PC shuts down. I can click on the same website that caused it again when
re-booted and it's ok. It is certain sites that trigger it. Chrome seems to be more
trouble than it is worth.

Hmmm... might be well worth running the virus checkers and the spyware checkers. Something
is clearly not very happy on your system. At the very least I'd think about uninstalling
Chrome and installing a new version.

Install another browser Marbury. Try Firefox. I've had this kind of thing with Chrome
before. Great browser but a little bit buggy at times.

I used to have Firefox but found it a bit slow. I could try uninstalling Chrome but I have
have all my personal settings for logging into different sites etc stored. If I can
somehow save them I will try it.

That GoogleUpdate.exe sends my computer loopy. I have to kill the process, even though
I've disabled this startup process on revouninstall! They seem to be using virus tactics
to make it impossible for users to make choices.

What is worrying is my PC shutting down. If Chrome is causing this it's more than just a
bug. It always happens when in the process of opening a website. I get this message when
it re-boots: You received this message because a hardware device, its driver,
or related software has caused a stop error, also called a blue screen error. This type of
error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data
corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver
that caused the problem.

So it took you 16 days to decide to try another browser? :-) Wasn't Internet Explorer
sitting in your Start Menu all along?

Aren't we all so stupid compared to you, eh?? Couldn't possibly have a valid reason for
using Chrome. "Don't solve problem, just switch to disliked browser and forget it."
Will you help me go to the toilet now daddy? My underpants are on backwards.

Well, yes! Chrome wasn't doing
the job. IE, which was only a click away, probably would have. You didn't have to change
your generally preferred browser, just try IE for that one job!
There are
several FTP clients that plug in to Chrome. Did the one you used have the option of
Passive FTP (PASV)? That can sometimes enable a troublesome FTP connection.

Tried Explorer and don't like it, especially all those annoying add on bits that slow it
right down. I tried Firefox. No crashes. Went back to Chrome and immediately
had blue screen shut down. Very worrying when a browser can do that to your PC.

I got quite into Firefox (particularly some of the plugins, even if they do slow it down a
bit:-) But something happened in a recent update that stopped YouTube playback working.
So it's back to IE, which seems to "just work" on more sites than anything else.

One thing did happen though when I was using Firefox that hasn't happened before. The PC
just shut down with no blue screen. I mean power off. Dead. V strange.

The BSOD seems quite rare these days, unless
you're running home-grown software.
Can you definitely blame the shut-down on
Firefox? Is it repeatable?

Can't blame Firefox as the PC's PSU is a bit dicky at times.

Since I have uninstantiated some horrible Chrome add on called "Babylon" (don't even
remember installing it) I have so far had no problems with Chrome.

Spoke too soon. Just had another blue screen shut down. It's so frustrating when you can't
pinpoint what is causing it The only
thing I know triggers it for sure is clicking on a website. But it doesn't always happen
with the particular sites. It's intermittent.

I realise now that the GoogleUpdate.exe I can't prevent is being triggered by the Google
searchbar/toolbar thing when you start up I.E or Firefox.
