I've recently read this article on using the I/O plug in to send to an external hardware effect.

I'm having issues with latency. I've checked the i/o safety settings band made sure that Plug In Delay Compensation is set to all... but I still have problems with latency.

The only way I can resolve it is to insert the I/O plug on one of the channels that I'm sending to the Aux track, select an in/out configuration and bypass it.

Surely that can't be right? There's got to be a better way?
