Sennheiser E901 VS Shure Beta91A new
      #1004890 - 22/08/12 07:15 PM
Hello All

Within the next few months I want to purchase one of the two above. Working with a variety of other engineers i'm drawn between the 2.
Both have characteristics I like in both microphones, I'm just not sure which one to get!
An American Engineer I have recently worked with had the 901 and I qoute said 'who are you gunna trust the Germans or the Americans!' refering to almost all sure microphones being made in korea, japan etc now

So i'm not sure which one to get!
It will be used in live situations varying from 100 cap venues to 500. And mostly used with Hard rock / Metal bands.

Cheerz Liam

There really isn't much in it. They are both similar beasts and the differences between them are slight.

I find the e901 has a bit more of a bass kick off it, so if it's the only mic you're using it might slightly trump the 91, but if you're using it with a Beta52 or other then the 91 might be better.

I went for a 901 because it's more robust and has a standard XLR connector. Sound wise, the 901 may have the edge, but I've not A/B'd them.

I think the new 91s have a normal XLR on them now. I agree about the build quality though.

All sounds good to me guys nice to here a few differnt opinons on the forum.
The build quality on the 901 did feel better.
And the new BETA91A is differnt to the BETA91. with regards to build and sound 'qualities'
I am being drawn towards towards to the 901, most engineers seem to use it with a D6 which I also own.

D6 is a great mic. I use that when I can, though not been able to justify the cost of it just yet.
