Alternative to Rode NT55's

I have a matched pair of NT55's which I got to record acoustic guitar. I picked them based
mostly on the positive comments they received on this forum and I have not been
disappointed, however, I do not have a 'great room' and I do not use them that often and I
get the feeling that I am not really getting the best out of them.
I may well
get very acceptable results from a less costly alternative (times are hard) so I would
really appreciate some suggestions I have considered SE1a's and MXL 603's.
The
vague plan is to pick one or two models and then look out on the bay or readers adds until
a bargain surfaces grab it then sell the the NT55's which are mint and still have about 9
of the 10 year warranty to run. My next question is what should I ask for the Rodes.
I also wonder if anyone wants to upgrade maybe we can work something out

I have a matched pair of MXL603s to which I have also added omni caps. I really like them,
but I'm happier yet with my NT55s. I can always do with another pair of NT55s here and I'm
sure we can work something out. PM me if you're interested.

I have a CAD GXL1200 with which I'm very pleased; did have a pair, but one went u/s on me
('twas an EBay second-user job). The self-noise is very respectable and, as I understand
it, they're fairly similar to the MXL 603. Also have a look at the Superlux
S241; it's had some very positive comments over at "the other place". If size
isn't a factor you might want to consider a Rode M3 - very positive review by Hugh when it
first came out. I couldn't get on with the SE1A m'self, but don't read too much
into that.... Oh; and if you decide to sell your NT55s AND they don't go to The
Elf....

The Line Audio CM3 is about twice cheaper and a much better mic than the NT55 (which I
assume being soundwise identical to the NT5). Shoot-out Rode NT5, Oktava MK-012, Line Audio CM3 and
Schoeps MK21 on grand piano here.

I've always like the Sontronics STC-1 mics and think they're good mics at a good price,
though in fairness I usually pick up the NT5's first. CC

I use a Neumann KMS 105 super-cardoid live vocal mic to record instruments in a
poor-sounding room. Rode M2 and S1 models look like they offer the same kind of enhanced
off-axis rejection for less money.
