Hi, I've just started working on some orchestral and choral recordings and am looking
at getting some larger mic stands as even the tallest of the standard size ones I have
don't seem to cut it. So far, however, the ones I have found have been upwards of £200
and I don't have the money as I would need at least 2. I was wondering if anyone has any
cheaper alternatives or even some ideas for diy stands? Would lighting stands work with
thread adapters or the like? Thanks Conor

Tall film/video/photography studio-style lighting stands are often a cost effective
solution. The Sontronics Matrix stand isn't very pretty, but is stable, has a long reach
and is relatively affordable.

I use one of THESE for exactly what you're wanting to do.
A bit
'industrial' but well-made and has a good range of adjustment. The boom mechanism is very
good and doesn't droop at all as long as correctly set.
