Large Mic Stands

Hi,
I've just started working on some orchestral and choral recordings and am looking at getting some larger mic stands as even the tallest of the standard size ones I have don't seem to cut it. So far, however, the ones I have found have been upwards of £200 and I don't have the money as I would need at least 2. I was wondering if anyone has any cheaper alternatives or even some ideas for diy stands? Would lighting stands work with thread adapters or the like?

Tall film/video/photography studio-style lighting stands are often a cost effective solution. The Sontronics Matrix stand isn't very pretty, but is stable, has a long reach and is relatively affordable.

I use one of THESE for exactly what you're wanting to do.

A bit 'industrial' but well-made and has a good range of adjustment. The boom mechanism is very good and doesn't droop at all as long as correctly set.

Recommended.

Ah, I've been looking to pick up another of the Superlux MS 200. I've had mine and also use it for choral recording and It's perfect!

I thought they had been discontinued though?
