Guitar effects for off floor use?
      #1031556 - 01/02/13 10:38 AM
Anyone know a good guitar effects unit I can use off the floor with an expression pedal plugged into it for delay feedback tweaks while playing? I was about to pull the trigger on a zoom g3 which could sit on top of my amp for control tweaks but then found the delay doesn't self oscillate. I use that self oscillation effect a lot. The Delay/Reverb effect is most important but a multifx is ok Any suggestions?

Look into TC line of guitar effects, they have several rack options.

If you love delays and reverbs then look at the Strymon range. If you look them up you'll see that the adoration vs meh ratio is very much in their favour. They have loads of great demo videos on their site / Youtube.

All of the range can be driven by a standard expression pedal. If your primary remit is to tweak in this manner then the Timeline will make you happiest out of the range as you can assign any of the control knobs to the expression pedal so you can up the repeats / mix / grit at the same time if you wish. The single units (Flint, BlueSky) etc can also take an expression pedal but you're limited to a single parameter being tweaked at a time in that way and it's more of a fiddle to set up.

They are really designed for the floor but they're just as good on the desk. Line level or instrument level is handled just fine.

Bad news is that they are expensive and addictive (I hadn't heard of the brand 6 months ago but now have 3 of their pedals). No software editor available yet but it's coming for Timeline and Mobius. Displays are a bit old hat IMO and for connectivity you've got MIDI at best (no USB).

I looked into the current TC Rack line but it looks like expression pedal side of things can only be done through midi. Unless I'm missing something.

At the cheaper end is the boss re20, that has an expression input and you can configure it to control the intensity and a thing they call twist. And it definitely oscillates.

I've never liked a solo violin, you need at least five for a proper fire.

Digitech GSP1101? Pod HDPro? Both probably have more amp/cab sims than you need but could be useful in recording setup too?
or this seems a useful repository of delay fx...
