Vocal recording mics with good ambient sound rejection?

Trying to find a good recording mic with above average ambient sound rejection. I am
looking at maybe a 'live' condenser like the Shure SM87 beta (with, I think Im right in
saying, a super or hyper cardoid pattern) - any other suggestions?

Take a look at SM7, Sennheiser e845 or Electrovoice RE510. Bob

You didn't put a price range?
I've always liked the rejection and sound of an
MD441. And the switchable bass rolloff is great for getting close to the right sound
quickly.

Grant..

Audix OM7 - one the best mics around for rejecting ambient sound although more often found
in a live situation rather than in a studio. James.

The same. With careful positioning and bass-cuts, especially around 90-100. A close
clip-on mic can work wonders; they tend to stay in the same place reliably & the
guitarist is free to move around. Don't forget to reduce stage/room sound if possible. Add the guitar's pickup to taste—if there is one. Try changing the polarity of
the pickup signal if you do this. One way will sound better.

Personally I would rather sling up a duvet or two, a reflexion filter or just find a sweet
spot in the room. Reducing ambient spill is very much about controlling the environment to
allow you to use a nice sounding mic rather than picking the mic because of it's ability
to reject the room... But SM7 if you insist!
