Site server transfer problem
      #11642 - 12/09/04 11:19 PM
Not directly music related but for reasons too convoluted to explain, I've got to move my whole website contents to a new server as the old one is no longer running. Does anyone know of any software (preferably free) that will transfer from one remote server to another. I use WSFTP to transfer from PC to remote server but it doesn't appear to let you transfer directly from one server to another.

Therefore at the moment, I've got to transfer from the old server to my PC, then from my PC to new server. As I'm on dialup and there's approx 50 mp3/asf files, it could be a bit of a pain.

Any suggestions?

I think the only way of doing this is to run ftp from one of the servers - you may be able to do this if you can log into one of the servers (using ssh or something) and run ftp from the command line. The people to ask about this are your hosting providers.

Alternatively you could try and find someone with a machine on a fast connection to do it for you (If it's easy I'd do iy for you, but then you'd have to trust me with your passwords).

Thanks for the tips guys. I tried another program called FTP Voyager which claims server to server transfer but that feature doesn't seem to work for me (although it seems to have more features than WSFTP so I may switch to that anyway).

Anyway, left it transferring overnight which is getting there now. I'll take a look at CoffeeCup as another alternative for future use.

Cheers cc for the offer - the server space is kindly donated to me by a friend of a friend so I can't really give out his passwords but I appreciate your offer.

Guess it's time to upgrade to broadbean but I'm just reluctant to pay any more monthly fees to NTL (phone/tv/internet) who are, let's face it, a bit crap.

Yeah, the problem usually is that the features that allow server to server transfers are often turned off on webservers for security reasons.
