Roland VGA7- any good???????
      #118297 - 21/04/05 11:43 AM
Watcha!

I'm thinking about buying a Roland VGA7 amplifier for gigging with. Anyone got one and used it live and loud?

Ive been using a POD XT Live through teh bad's PA system and just can't seem to get a decent/convincing sound. No complaints in teh studio though!

Also, I will use a GK3 midi pickup to access the VGA7's midi out port and thus sequence via the guitar in Cubase- anybody done this and had good or bad experiences?

Cheers
Al.

I got one last year and yes, it's very very very nice.
Few things to point out though....
First, the GK3 pickup has nothing to do with midi...it's just a pickup split to give 6 seperate signals (fantastic with VGA7 though), so you can't use it to sequence midi stuff.
Second, it is definitely loud enuff for gigging and the advantage is that it has full range speakers, so you get exactly the same sound out of the speakers, or the PA, or headphones.
Third, it is probably the heaviest amp I've ever carried....hope you don't have a bad back!
Lastly, if you use the GK3, there's no easy way of adding extra guitar fx boxes....but I like it like that. When I go to the gig- 1 guitar, 1 amp, 1 cable. simple

Oh, forgot to mention how it sounds.....
I've got some umm... cashflow problems at the mo, and had to pawn my beautiful 50th Anniversary Strat Deluxe last weekend
I picked up a nasty old no-name guitar for 20 quid from a junk shop, stripped out all the pickups and controls, slapped the GK3 on it and plugged it into the VGA7....
It sounds *EXACTLY* the same as the strat!!!
Truly mindblowing
I'm sure SOS did a review of it....try a search in the reviews section.
